Not fewer than ten persons have reportedly lost their lives, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal multiple accident in Kwara.
The accident was reportedly happened on Thursday night at Ile Pupa area, along Jebba-Bode Saadu expressway, Kwara state.
It was gathered that the road traffic crash was caused by wrong overtaking and speed violation.
It was also gathered that three vehicles were involved in the crash while dead victims of the auto crash included seven male adults, one female adult and two female children.
The incident, which happened at about 6:30 p.m., involved a total number of 17 persons including 12 male adults, two female adults, one male child and two female children.
According to the first information report (FIR) of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the three vehicles involved in the accident included one petroleum tanker, Toyota Corolla car and Volkswagen Sharan vehicle.
The particulars of the there vehicles involved were given as private green colour Volkswagen Sharan vehicle with registration number AKD733FX and private Toyota Corolla gold colour car with registration number GWA22DD while driver’s name was identified as Oladokun Waheed.
The third vehicle was given as white colour Gallop commercial JAC petrol tanker, belonging to DANMARNA PETROLEUM Limited.
Speaking on the incident, the FRSC sector commander, Frederick Ogidan, said that a total sum of N60,750 was recovered from the scene of the crash.
He also said that survivors in the crash sustained varying degrees of injury such as bruises and cut, adding that injured ones had been taken to Shalom Hospital, Bode Saadu, while the dead bodies were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) mortuary.
He said that Police officers from Jebba Divisional Unit had taken custody of the vehicles involved in the accident.
“Motorists are advised to be cautious of the way they speed and overtake wrongfully. FRSC Kwara will commence another round of enforcement on speed violation and overloading from Monday, July 14, 2023, as we cannot tolerate a situation were 10 lives are lost in a single crash”, he said.
