12 Of Our Students Still In Bandits’ Den, Says Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau has said 12 students of the university kidnapped by bandits were still in their captivity.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in his office yesterday

said out of the 28 victims, eight escaped from the bandits while eight had been rescued by troops.

Speaking on the nine construction workers kidnapped by the bandits during the attack, Prof. Mu’azu said three of them narrowly escaped from the bandits while the remaining six were still with their abductors.

He further confirmed that a protocol officer of the university, Mr. Ezekiel Ibrahim, was among those kidnapped by the bandits and still in captivity.

Prof. Mu’azu stated that the management of the university had communicated to parents and guardians of the affected students on the matter.

On the issue of ransom, the vice chancellor explained that the bandits had not asked for any ransom yet.

“We have not received any call or demand for ransom by the abductors of our students so far and we tried all the best to trace the contact addresses of the affected students and inform their parents and guardians on the matter,” he added.

He appealed to parents of the affected students to remain calm, saying the security agencies were doing their best to ensure the remaining students and seven others were rescued unhurt. (Blueprint)
