The National Population Commission (NPC) on Tuesday inaugurated a publicity committee In Kwara state as part of the preparation for the forthcoming population and housing census.
Decorating members of the committee, at the venue of the event held at the NUJ press centre, Ilorin, the deputy governor of the state, Mr Kayode Aremu charged them to be proactive by taking enlightenment and sensitization campaign to every hook and cranny of the state and to professional and traditional groups for the success of the forthcoming exercise.
“proper conduct of the exercise will provide data that will guide the policymakers in taking decisions that will impact positively on the lives of the people.
He advised the committee members to embark on advocacy using a different strategy that will enable them to deliver the message to the public.
In his address the National Population Commission (NPC) federal Commissioner in Kwara state, Alhaji Abdulrazak Gidado said this year’s population and housing Census will be done using international best practices.
He said full technology will be adopted to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Alhaji Gidado urged the committee to embark on advocacy and sensitization to ensure the message gets to the people at the grassroot.
In his Goodwill message the Director ,National Orientation Agency (NOA) Kwara state Directorate,Mr Olusegun Adeyemi expressed confidence that the Commisssion had put in place measures that will enable the exercise succeed.
He appealed to Nigerians to support the Commission to enable it to conduct a hitch-free exercise.
In his remark, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kwara state Council, Abdullateef Ahmed commended the NPC for the job well done since the beginning of the preparation for the exercise said the capability of the Commissioner and resilience of the management and entire staff of NPC in the state was impressive.
He, however, said the union will collaborate with the Commission to enlighten the general public on the importance of population and Housing Census to national development.
In her address the president, National Council for women Society, Kwara State Chapter, Hajiya Hadiza Audi said the women have concluded plans to educate members of the communities on the need to participate in the the exercise.
Earlier in his welcome address the Kwara state Director of the National Population Commission (NPC), Alhaji Saeed Adebayo said the Commission has conducted a lot of training for the officials to enable the exercise to succeed.
