The National Orientation Agency, NOA, on Tuesday organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for the field officers in preparation for the nationwide voters education by the agency.
Speaking at the training workshop held in Ilorin, Kwara State Director of the agency, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi said the training workshop was to prepare the field officers of the agency ahead of the sensitization and education of voters towards achieving peace, prevention of void votes and voter apathy among other things in 2023 general election.
Adeyemi decried the high number of void votes recorded in the past which sometimes has prevented the best candidates from emerging and which must be prevented by voting correctly.
He further lamented voter apathy, a situation where voters stay away on election days out of the belief that their votes don’t count. This mentality, he said must be corrected as INEC has put measures in place to ensure votes count and results are transmitted electronically to prevent fraud.
In his words “the Agency is ever committed to achieving a credible election, hence, its voter sensitization campaign focuses on reducing the challenge of voided votes, sensitization for peaceful general elections, as well as sensitization against vote buying and selling, in order to make the elections credible”.
Adeyemi, therefore, urged the electorates to be peaceful and law-abiding, reminding them to collect their permanent voter cards, troop out to cast their votes and resist any temptation to sell their votes during the election.
The beneficiaries of the training workshop include Assistant Directors, Chief Orientation officers and Mobilization Officers.
