2023 Elections: Police trains social media influencers

Social media influencers in kano have been charged to shun the acts of circulating fake news and hate speeches on social media as the 2023 general elections draws near.

The commissioner of police in Kano, Mamman Dauda stated this during a summit on ‘combating hate speech and fake news during the 2023 elections’ in Kano organized by Aminu Magashi Foundation in collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force Kano Command.

He said youths are the engine room of development in any society hence the need for adequate training for social media influencers on the effect of circulating fake news and hate speech on social, for violence-free elections.

“If youths want to develop the nation, they can do so, and if they want to destroy the nation they can also do so, as such there was the need to enlighten them on the effects of fake news “.

In a remark, the Founder of the Aminu Magashi Foundation Dr. Aminu Magashi said the objectives of the summit was to curtail the menace of circulating fake news and hate speeches on social media.

He advised the participants to use the opportunity to build their capacity on effective use of the social media to diseminate credible news.

Earlier, the representative of the Resident electoral officer Kano Suleiman Alkali said the summit was very timely.

“We are disturbed with how people are circulating fake news on the social hence adequate measure needed to be implored In addressing circulation of fake news and hate speeches on social media.

The summit was attended by social media influencers and other stakeholders. (RN)
