2023 Elections: Senate announces adjournment of plenary

The Senate has announced that it would adjourn plenary next week so that legislators can participate fully in election campaigning.

On December 28, 2022, the senate adjourned plenary and had just begun meeting again after a three-week break.

The Senate president Ahmed Lawan announcedduring Tuesday’s plenary, q that the session would be suspended for the duration of the elections after the week’s work.

During the break, he pointed out, lawmakers running for various positions in the general election would be able to conduct the necessary campaigning in their various areas.

To avoid having to meet the next week; he said, the Senate might cease its operations this week if it can take care of any pressing matters.

Lawan said, “We are prepared to sit up to Friday this week to attend to all urgent issues requiring our attention; so we don’t have to sit next week in view of the forthcoming elections.”
