2023: Kwara NUJ begins maiden political debate, Wednesday

Preparatory to the 2023 general elections, the Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has concluded arrangement to organize a two-day maiden debate among candidates of political parties for various elective position.

The debate is to commence on Wednesday October 26, 2022 at the NUJ Press Centre, Offa Road, GRA, Ilorin at 10am each day.

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Saturday, the Chairman and Secretary of the Planning Committee of Kwara NUJ Political Debate, Mr Segun Adeyemi and Prince Yemi Adurotoye respectively, said the event tagged “Conversation 2023” is designed to create a platform for candidates to interact with the electorates on their programmes and plans to better the lots of the populace.

The statement noted that the debate for National Assembly candidates is fixed for Wednesday, October 26, 2022 while parties’ candidates for the State House of Assembly are slated for Thursday, October 27, 2022.

The statement added that the debate would afford each candidate of politcal parties in the forthcoming general elections opportunities to speak on challenges facing governance and what they intend to do to correct the anomalies if given the mandate.

It maintained that the maiden politcal debate is an avenue to discourage apathy, stimulate citizens’ participation in political processes and raise the bar in governance.

The statement urged National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates of political parties, who have been contacted to attend the event promptly.
