The Kwara State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has affirmed former students leader, Abubakar Basambo as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 governorship election.
Basambo, who was one time legislative aide to the former president of the Senate was unanimously voted as the flagbearer at the party’s governorship primaries held on Thursday at the NLC state secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.
The National Chairman of the party and presiding chairman of the primaries, Barrister Julius Abure, represented at the event by Comrade Rotimi Kehinde made the announcement of the governorship candidate and other candidates of the party for the forthcoming general elections amid the mammoth crowd.
Basambo, described Labour Party as a likeable bride which had been tipped to take over power at the National and charged Kwara electorate and youth in particular to wake up and be part of the movement.
“The time is now, for the youth to take over the leadership, enough of economic hardship, insecurity and ASUU strike, we need fresh ideas and energetic people and the Labour Party offers all these qualities.
“I urged my fellow youth and electorate, in general, to see my candidature as an opportunity to rebirth Kwara, where equity, and justice shall prevail irrespective of background”
Basambo will be running with a female deputy, Comrade Ronke Ehindero.
Speaking earlier the National Chairman of the party, said “the situation around the country spoke for itself, as no patriotic Nigerian would be happy with economic hardship, insecurity and the prolonged ASUU strike.
He expressed confidence that the next destination was Labour Party, and the party was well prepared to deliver good governance for Nigerian and regained the lost glory.
“Nigeria is a consuming nation and our priority is to turn it into producing nation, that all of us will be proud of.
“We are fully committed to rescuing this nation and urge teeming Nigerians and Kwarans to join the movement our dear nation is in a state of comatose and needs urgent revival” Abure said
