2023: PDP Governors in Closed-Door Meeting With Wike in London

Three People Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governors: Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia have been reportedly meeting with their counterpart, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in London to pacify him not to leave the party ahead of 2023 general election.

Also present at the meeting were Senator Olaka Nwogu and Chief Dan Orbih.

There have been attempts to pacify the governor Wike, following the ill-treatment believed to be meted on him by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

We could recalled that some APC Governors led by the chairman of the Governors Forum, Kayode Fayemi, had earlier visited Governor Wike in Rivers state in what could be described as an attempt to woo him to their party.

However, he has continued to maintain silence on his next move after he was jettisoned by the PDP presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar for the slot of the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

A highly placed PDP source, has confirmed to our reporter that since the crisis over the choice of the Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP started, Governor Samuel Ortom, of Benue State has been under serious pressure to persuade the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, not to withdraw his support for the party or dump the party.

According to the source, The Governor of Benue State was pressurised by the hierarch of the party to summon a meeting immediately in London following, the Friday, visit of Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo Governors Sanwoolu, Fayemi and Akeredolu as well as former governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose.
