Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council with Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom and Seyi Makinde -governors of Rivers, Benue and Oyo states respectively absent at the event.

It would be recalled that all PDP governors are members of the presidential campaign council.

All members of Governor Nyesom Wike’s camp that earlier vowed not to participate in the PDP campaign were conspicuously absent at the inauguration ceremony.

However, former National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus and Rivers state PDP chieftains stormed the inauguration of the Campaign Council

The event commenced with the launching of three books on Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the party, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.

The books are ‘Restructuring as a Pathway to Unity and Development’, ‘The Story of Atiku Abubakar’, and ‘Landmark Constitutional Law Cases in Nigeria (2004-2007): The Atiku Abubakar Cases’.

Speaking at the event, Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state and Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council urged members of the council to be united in working for the victory of the party in the general election.

“The Campaign Council will serve as the vehicle to deliver the PDP and its presidential flag bearer to the villa on the 29th May, 2023, by the special grace of God,” Tambuwal said.

“All of us are going to hit the ground running and we shall work collectively as a family to ensure the victory of our party.

“The PDP, and indeed its candidate, is the party to beat in this election. It’s only for us to work and, God on our side, we shall deliver this victory to our party and to Nigerians.

“We believe INEC shall conduct free and fair elections. By doing so, victory by the grace of God is guaranteed for the PDP”, he said.

Speaking at the event, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku advised Nigerians no to despair or lose hope as the myriad of problems afflicting the country will soon be surmounted.

He again lamented the decay in all sectors in the country since 2015 when the All Progressives Congress, APC, came into office.

He declared that the task of rebuilding the country may appear daunting but Nigerians should not shirk the responsibility of coming together to rebuild the nation.

“Since the loss at the polls of 2019 till now, and under the watch of the current APC government, our dear country has witnessed a frightening descent into anarchy. Our nation is currently in the throes of a multidimensional crisis encompassing insecurity, economic meltdown, disunity and mutual mistrust, to mention a few.

“To start with, the current government has failed at the very essence of what makes a government: the security of lives and property of its citizens. Our security challenges are legion, and I do not need to bore you by rehashing them here.

On his part, the Chairman of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, Governor Udom Emmanuel said the party remains a solid rock that cannot be blown away by the wind.

Governor Emmanuel who is chairman of the council advised Nigerians and members of the party to ignore those speculating disintegration of the party.

“I want to say here, don’t mind the doomsayers, I read everywhere all those doomsayers saying PDP here, PDP there, but I want to assure you that PDP is a solid Rock and we know that no matter the wind it will not move the Rock. So irrespective of the wind that you see around the rock, it will not move the rock. The rock remains as solid as ever.

“Please don’t mind the doomsayers. We want to assure you that we are campaigning to win. Nothing is acceptable to PDP outside victory for PDP, But this will also require that all of us, we must also work”, said.

He advised members of the Campaign Council to hit the ground running immediately.

“This time there is no sitting in Abuja, everybody will have to work hard and carry the message home. PDP is not an Abuja party; you win from your unit, your ward and not by sitting in Abuja. The campaign council will take the message to the unit.

“If we had made mistakes in the past, we cannot wind down the clock, we cannot recall what passed yesterday, but we can move forward in the spirit of oneness, unity and progress.”

In his own message the Deputy National Chairman, North, Amb. Umaru Damagun, who represented the PDP Chairman, Iyorcha Ayu, said with the inauguration of the Campaign Council, the mission to rescue Nigeria has begun.

“As the window of the presidential campaign opens today, one of the major processes to rescue our beloved country, Nigeria and Nigerians, from the hostile, aggressive and hunger-stricken grief of the APC government is 28th of January, the rescue mission has begun”, he added. (Nigerian Pilot)
