40th Birthday: Kwara Cabinet Member Pays Inmates Fines, Shower Money on Newborn Babies

As a way of thanking God for sparing her life to witness 40 years of age on earth in sound health and good living condition, the serving Commissioner for Youth Development in Kwara State, Hon. Adenike Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin, on Thursday, paid fines and secured the release of six inmates at the Oke Kura Correctional Facility and as well gifted money to all newborn babies at the state General Hospital in Ilorin on that same Thursday.

As part of measures to rehabilitate the released inmates, Hon. Afolabi-Oshatimehin, also bought some equipment for them, totalling hundreds of thousand to ply their new vocation acquired while at theCorrectional Centre.

Some of the tools included barbing equipment and accessories, Aluminum fabricator, carpentary tools, interior/ decoration tools, auto mobile and technician tools.

The Ifelodun LGA born Commissioner in her remark on the occasion, encouraged the affected inmates to turn a new leaf, and never venture into any criminal activity again, as they return into the society.

“As youths, you are expected to position yourselves, as the future leaders, who are intellectually prepared for the new challenges in all human endeavours.

“This is to ensure you do not return to any form of crime again because an idle hand is the devil’s workshop. I appeal to you to use these tools to fend for yourselves and assist others”, she said.

In his reaction, the Officer in Charge of the Correctional Center, ACC Abiola Adebanjo described Hon Afolabi-Oshatimehin as a blessing to this generation, commending Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his commitment toward empowering the youths.

“My heart is filled with joy with the Youth Commissioner’s philanthropic gesture aimed at rehabilitating some of our inmates she facilitated to secure their freedom.

” We sincerely appreciate your kind gestures and love that you have shown to the youths in this Correctional Center. You’re indeed a blessing to this generation, Adebanjo observed.
