Barely 48 hours after honouring the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the immediate past governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed on Tuesday remained in the Ilorin custody of the antigraft agency.
It was gathered that Ahmed who was also the commissioner for Finance for almost eight years during the tenure of his predecessor, Dr Bukola Saraki was being interrogated by the EFCC on the N10bn project executed during his tenure as the governor of the state.
The former governor reported at the EFCC office on Monday to honour an invitation by the anti-graft agency.
A source said that Ahmed was invited at the weekend and presented himself to the agency at about 9 am on Monday and remained in the office at 7 pm on Tuesday.
The source who said he didn’t know the projects that the former governor was invited to clarify at the office, however, said “What I can tell you is that Ex-governor Ahmed is still with the EFCC and has not been released as of 7 pm on Tuesday”.
Ex-governor Ahmed had earlier reacted to the EFCC invitation through his former Chief Press Secretary, AbdulWahab Oba where he said
“I’ve always expressed my willingness to answer any query or question about my stewardship as a governor of the state.
“So, my visit on invitation to the agency’s office is in tandem with my readiness and preparedness to account for my stewardship,” Dr Ahmed.
