Kwara South Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate, Prof Wale Sulaiman has sponsored free medical healthcare for 5,927 beneficiaries across the seven LGAs. The medical intervention was facilitated by RNZ Foundation in collaboration with Shekinah Medical Outreach.
It covered 10 towns between October 2022 and February 2023. The project attracted reputable doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses and other health practitioners from the public and private sectors. Over 3000 people were screened for hepatitis, malaria, diabetes, hypertension while 1,114 benefited from eye screening covering eye drops, eye glasses and cataract surgeries.
Commenting on the intervention program, Prof Sulaiman said, ” l was inspired by the need to give back to the society; service to humanity. Politics is about service”. He stressed that ” government must formulate comprehensive sustainable healthcare programs, health insurance, bring healthcare closer to the people, build more hospitals, health centres equipped with drugs and personnels”.
Prof Sulaiman who attended to patients during the closing session at Ajase Ipo advised politicians to “look beyond campaigns, do the work, provide service to the people”. He said, “Our people have been left behind for too long. This is the right time to restore their dignity”.
The SDP senatorial candidate urged the people of Kwara South to “come out enmass and vote to express their frustrations and disappointments over past representations by voting for SDP”. Prof Sulaiman who had consultations with Kwara South stakeholders in Lagos and Abuja affirmed that “they assured him of their wish to change the narratives by coming home to vote during the general elections”. He vowed to provide quality representation through promotion of access to basic healthcare, investments to create jobs, Primary and Secondary School, reduce poverty and embrace policies that will protect lives and properties.
