7th Nat’l Youth Games Ends, See Medal Table

The seventh National Youth Games which started on September twenty has come close on Saturday 30th of September with Delta Delta state retaining the title fifty-one gold, thirty-four silver, and thirty-one bronze medals.

Tagging behind Delta State on the medals standing is Lagos State. The Centre of Excellence has won 16 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze medals as at the time of this report.

Bayelsa State are third on the medals table, with 11 gold, five silver and ten bronze medals while Edo State, whose athletes are led to the Games here by Olympian and national long jump record holder Yusuf Alli, take fourth place, all thanks to winning 10 gold medals, five silver medals and 11 bronze medals.

Host of the last two editions of the National Youth Games, Kwara completes the top five teams on the medals table, with 17 medals in total, five gold, seven silver and five bronze medals.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Minister of Sports, Senator John Owanenoh, said the Games has realized its objectives as talents have been discovered and represented the country at the international level.

“The Games did not only provide a platform for the Youth to showcase their talents but allowed them to interact and make Forster friendships with their colleagues across the country.

“The federal government is committed to grassroots Sports development as it cares for the future of Youth.

The minister, however commended the Delta state government for providing facilities and its efforts in hosting a successful Games, also applauded the athletes, the official stakeholders, and the state governments for funding their contingents to the Games.

While congratulating the winning state, he appreciated other states’ Athletics for their efforts.
