96,666 pupils to benefit from govt school feeding programme in Kwara, As 100 persons engaged as independent monitors

No fewer than 96,666 pupils of the public schools in kwara state are to benefit from the government Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

This was disclosed by the focal person for the National Social Investments Programmes (NSIP), in the state, Hajia Bashira AbdulRazaq, in Ilorin, at a day training programme for Independent Monitoring team for the Social Investment programme of government at Fresh Hotel, Ilorin.

Hajia AbdulRazaq, also disclosed that 4500 women that will be in charge of cooking have been medically screened and ready for the programme that will commence anytime soon.

She said that the federal government had designed the programme to feed Primary 1 to 3 pupils while Kwara state government would provide free meal for pupils in Primary 4 to 6.

She disclosed that the “National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) have touched lives of more than four million people across the country through a fair, transparent process”

Hajia AbdulRazaq also made it know that the programme is supported by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning and many other MDAs.

She explained that the NSIP, which is the initiative of the President Mohammadu Buhari, to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty, include NPower, Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), and Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP).

Speaking at the training, the coordinator of the independent monitoring team, Hajia Safiya Sanni said “the main purpose of engaging independent people to monitor the social investment programme is to have proper monitoring of how the programme is been discharge to the targeted people and identify which area of the programme need improvement”

Hajia Safiya, who made it know to the trainees that their assignment is just for a period of one year and warned them that they are not supervisor or coordinator of the programme and they should not go beyond their role while doing the work.

In his remarks at the event, kwara state,  Director of National Orientation Agency, Mr Segun Adeyemi, urged the beneficiaries to be trustworthy and discharge their duties with the best of their abilities added that his agency will also monitor the programme.
