The Chairman, Kwara State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Aliyu Issa Ore, has described as saddening the transition of the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi, and Justice Safiya Titi Daibu of the state High Court.
Ore said the death of the two distinguished Kwarans came with a rude shock to labour movement.
This was contained in a condolence statement the NLC Chairman issued and made available to Journalists in Ilorin.
Ore, who doubles as Deputy National President of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), commiserated with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, for what he termed “colossal losses” to Ilorin community and Kwara as a whole.
He added that the demise of Professor Akanbi had depleted the intellectual firmament while that of Justice Daibu greatly affected the temple of justice.
The NLC Chairman, who prayed for the repose of the souls of the erudite scholar and the jurist, beseeched the Almighty Allah to grant the bereaved families fortitude to endure the losses.
“At Kwara NLC, we are deeply pained by the transition of the duo of Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi and Justice Safiya Titi Daibu, especially with its attendant effect on intellectual firmament and temple of justice. Our hearts are with the families of the deceased in this trying period”, Ore said.
