Imo NUJ crisis: Court adjourns case to March 2023

The high court sitting in Owerri has adjourned the case on the purported sale of the old secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo state council, situated on Port harcourt Road, Owerri, by the national president of the union, Chris Isiguzo and some unelected officials of the state council to a former governor of the state to March 7, 2023.

The adjournment followed the agreement reached by the counsel to the purported buyer and the unelected officials of the union, Associate Professor C.K.Okorie (SAN) and the counsel to the Imo NUJ Caretaker Committee and other journalists, Professor Francis Dike (SAN) to find an alternative date for the case following the poor health condition of Okorie’s second and this was accepted by the presiding judge.

Meanwhile, a former Attorney General in the state and counsel to the Imo NUJ Caretaker Committee, Professor Francis Dike (SAN), has faulted the attempted entry and harassment of tenants of the old Imo NUJ secretariat by the so-called new officials of Imo NUJ loyal to Isiguzo.

He said the case on the secretariat’s sale was still in court and was therefore subjudice.

He warned the so-called officials to desist from anything that would lead to break down of law and order as failure to adhere to this would count against them legally. (Blueprint)
