I want to sincerely thank and appreciate the support of all key Social Democratic Party (SDP) party faithfuls, community leaders, traditional institutions, SDP candidates in Kwara South senatorial district, SDP political leaders, SDP party members, and most importantly all the 25,000 people that voted for me across the 7 LGAs of Kwara South for their support and belief in our vision for Kwara South in the last election. We gave it our best effort, but God’s decision ultimately prevailed as people chose to re-elect my brother Senator Lola Ashiru.
Politics is all about interests at either the community, ward, local government, senatorial or state level. The only and most important interests that have ever mattered to me were those of the people who have been denied dividends of democracy for so long. These are the people that I wanted to serve.
I have always maintained that I am a professional in politics, not a professional politician. Democracy is about freedom of choice and expressions. Therefore, it would be wrong of me to give any directive to my supporters on what decisions to make with regards to their political affiliations, as it is up to each individual to determine how his/her interests can best be served. I do however urge all people in the course of making their decisions to support the state and federal governments in all ways that they can for the betterment of our state and country.
I believe that my life’s calling is neurosurgery, neurosciences, healthcare leadership and administration. Everything that I have achieved in life has been made possible through hard-work, dedication to excellence, honesty, the courage to do right (even when it’s unpopular or uncomfortable) with the highest degree of integrity, and of course by the grace of God. I remain resolute to use my expertise and all I have to help move my dear state and Nigeria forward. Likewise, my family and I are also committed to giving back to the less privileged through philanthropy, and we will continue to support Nigeria’s economic development through our work in the private sector.
I wish you and your families all your hearts’ desires.
