Proprietress Tasks Govt, Private School Owners on Special Salary For Teachers

The Proprietress of Tranquil and Trust International School, Ilorin has appealed to the government at all tiers and private school owners to implement a special salary scale for elementary school teachers in Nigeria.

Yusuf made the call while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the sidelines of the 1st Graduation and End of the Session Ceremony of the school.

She decried the poor salary structure for teachers, especially in public primary and secondary schools, stressing that the development was affecting productivity in the sector.

According to her, when teachers are well remunerated, this will make teaching more attractive and rewarding.

She urged governments at all levels to place a premium on the salaries and welfare of teachers in Nigeria at primary and post-primary levels.

Also speaking, Mr Tade Zikrullah, the Head Master of the school described elementary education as the foundation of learning and education for any country.

He emphasised on the need to make sure the foundation of learning in Nigeria is strong, through effective funding and placing more attention on primary and secondary schools.

Zikrullah pointed out that elementary education is the foundation of inculcating permanent literacy and numeracy and the ability to communicate effectively for Nigerian children.

He also appealed to government for free education, books and other necessary school tools for the Nigerian children. (NAN)
