Kwara State Government has directed immediate temporary closure of some schools in the state capital pending resolution that erupted over disagreement on Hijab uses by Muslims Students in those schools.
The closure directive was communicated to the journalists through a press statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Mary Adeosun early hours of Friday
The affected schools are: C&S College Sabo Oke, ST. Anthony College, Offa Road, ECWA School, Oja Iya, Surulere Baptist Secondary School, Bishop Smith Secondary School, Agba Dam, CAC Secondary School Asa Dam, St. Barnabas Secondary School Sabo Oke, St. John School Maraba, St. Williams Secondary School Taiwo Isale and St. James Secondary School Maraba.
The emergency closure comes some hours after the allegedly stoping of Muslim Students with Hijab on their head, from entering the premises of their school, Surulere Baptist Secondary School, Ilorin, for the day academic activities, in which the stoppage of those Students almost result to uproar before the intervention of the authorities.
Kwara State Government, however said a special committee set up by the government, comprising representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities will meet later in the day, Friday, 19th of February to iron out the differences between the concerned parties.
Added that, further communication will be issued to inform members of the public on the development.
Government calls for calm and urges parents and religious leaders to avoid actions or comments that may further split the two communities.
