In a solemn display of respect, unity, and shared grief, prominent Nigerians from various walks of life have continued to pay condolence visits to the Abuja residence of the Dan Amanar Fune Emirate, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, following the passing of his beloved mother, Hajia Mariam Ajia.

The late Hajia Mariam Ajia, a revered matriarch known for her deep spirituality, generosity, and enduring commitment to family and faith, passed on recently, leaving behind a legacy that has drawn heartfelt tributes from political figures, traditional rulers, corporate executives, religious leaders, and members of the diplomatic and academic communities.

In the heart of Abuja, the Ajia family compound has become a convergence point for dignitaries offering prayers, sharing memories, and extending their sympathies to Alhaji Ibrahim Ajia, a respected security expert and politician, known for his role in national development and philanthropy.

Among the earliest callers was the former Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar, who described Hajia Mariam as “a mother to all, whose prayers and kindness shaped the lives of many beyond her family.”

Also present was the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works, Alhaji Muhammed Bukar, who led a delegation of senior officials to pay their respects, emphasizing the values of compassion and strength instilled in the Ajia household by the deceased matriarch.

The diplomatic community was represented by Ahmed Dunoma, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who paid tribute to Hajia Mariam’s moral uprightness, noting that “her life was one of quiet influence that touched many, including those in governance.”

From the royal institution, the Serikin Sumaila, Alhaji Bello Sumaila, lent a traditional depth to the mourning, invoking prayers from the palace and acknowledging Hajia Mariam’s role in preserving Islamic and cultural values.

Barrister Ismael Ahmed, Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), expressed deep condolences, recalling Alhaji Ajia’s consistent reference to his mother as his greatest influence and mentor in service to humanity.

The academic and corporate world was represented by the likes of Prof. Aruma Oteh, former Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Assistant Professor Zarna Mohammed, who both highlighted the late Hajia’s role in nurturing a family rooted in service and education.

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Bolaji Abdullahi, who also serves as Acting Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), described Hajia Mariam as “a rare soul who lived in simplicity but impacted the high and low alike.”

Prominent politician and legal scholar, Prof. Ali Ahmad, former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, also paid a condolence visit, noting that the Ajia family has “lost a pillar, and the nation a quiet builder.”

Prayers were led by respected Islamic scholars including Imam Abdulkadir Sholagberu of the National Mosque, who recited verses from the Holy Qur’an and prayed for the repose of Hajia Mariam’s soul, calling on the community to emulate her piety and resilience.

Business executives, including Princess Aisha Bubaram, Executive Director of First Bank, and Mr. Ike Odenigwe, Managing Director of Centenary City, were also among the sympathizers. Representatives from Zenith Bank, First Bank, and other financial institutions joined in offering their condolences and support.

Youth leaders from Nigeria’s major political parties also visited in droves, offering solidarity and expressing appreciation for Hajia Mariam’s enduring role in shaping one of the country’s finest examples of youth empowerment through her son, Alhaji Ajia.

Community leaders, including Hajia Binta Gaude, Alhaji Ahmed Buhari, and Najeeb Tafida, along with former colleagues from the Nigeria Police Force, shared fond memories and prayed for divine comfort for the family.

Also present were Bashir Ahmed, former presidential adviser to Muhammadu Buhari, Hon. Gambo Mansir, and Abubakar Danladi Barde, among other dignitaries who spoke glowingly about the late matriarch’s devotion to community and family.

As the streams of visitors continue, one sentiment resonates among all—Hajia Mariam Ajia was not just a mother to Alhaji Ibrahim Ajia but a maternal figure whose grace and prayers lifted countless others. In life, she nurtured; in death, she has united.

May her soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.
