The Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has confirmed receiving a petition against Overland Airways over allegations of exploitative and discriminatory airfares on the Ilorin route.

The petition, filed on August 4, 2025, by prominent Kwara-born legal luminary, A.U. Mustapha (SAN), accuses Overland Airways of leveraging its monopoly as the sole commercial airline operating at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, to impose exorbitant ticket prices.

According to the Senior Advocate, the airline’s dominant market position has enabled it to charge disproportionately high fares on the Lagos–Ilorin–Abuja route, unfairly burdening travellers to and from Ilorin. He further highlighted striking inconsistencies in fare pricing, especially when Ilorin merely serves as a stopover on the same routes.

In a response dated August 21, 2025, the FCCPC, through its Deputy Director of Surveillance & Investigation, Mrs. F.O.I. Nwachukwu, confirmed receipt of the petition and assured that the commission will thoroughly investigate the matter to ensure a speedy and fair resolution.

This development has sparked renewed conversations around consumer rights, airline pricing practices, and the need for competitive options for air travellers in Kwara State.
