The remains of the former Governor of Kwara State, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo have been laid to rest in Oke-Onigbin, his home country.
Earlier the funeral service was held at All Saints Anglican Church, Oke-Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State with dignitaries across the country and beyond in attendance.
The late Cornelius Adebayo served as Kwara State Governor during the Third Republic and later as Minister of Communications under President Olusegun Obasanjo. He died in August, 2025 at the age of 84.
In his sermon, the Archbishop of Kwara Anglican Province, Most Rev. Israel Amoo reminisces about the life of the late politician for lived a fulfilled life of uprightness and integrity.
The clergy man seized the occasion to call the attention of the state governor to the plight of retirees, saying “Your Excellency, Mr Governor, pensioners in Kwara State are suffering. They are suffering and dying in penury. Retirees from 2019 to 2025 are still awaiting their gratuities. We urged your government to prioritize their welfare.”
Rev. Amoo also called the attention of the governor to the deplorable state of rural infrastructure, with emphasis on the road leading to the funeral community of Oke-Onigbin. He described the poor roads as both an economic burden and a significant security threat, urging the government to intervene.
He further reminded all political office holders of the transient nature of power saying the ultimate accountability awaits them.
In his vote of thanks, Engr. Cornelius Oluwasegun Adebayo, the Executive Secretary/CEO of National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA)
who lead the final rites on behalf of the immediate family, expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq and other dignitaries for attending the one-week activities both in Abuja and Kwara State.
He also announce the donation of a brand new bus to All Saints Anglican Church as a gesture in honouring his father’s enduring Christian faith and community spirit.

Earlier in his remarks at the Church service, the state deputy governor Elder Kayode Alabi, acknowledged the late politician’s immense contributions to the development of Kwara and Nigeria.
Governor AbdulRazaq later led top government officials and dignitaries to the final interment as the remains of the elder statesman were laid to rest at his Oke Onigbin residence, marking what many described as the “end of an era for Kwara State.”
Among the dignitaries that attended the funeral includes: Current Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Dr. Iyiola Omisore, Deputy Senate Leader and Kwara South Senator, Arch Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, and the Member representing Ekiti/Isin/Oke-ero/Irepodun Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi (Ajuloopin). former Senate President Senator Dr. Bukola Saraki, former Ogun State Governor Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and the immediate past Kwara Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed.
