As political activities gather momentum ahead of the end of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s tenure, one political figure has continued to attract attention across Kwara’s political landscape and that is, Hon. Mashood Mustapha (MM).

Without granting interviews or issuing statements, the Isale-Aluko-born politician appears to be quietly influencing the direction of conversations in the state’s political circle.

A former federal lawmaker and respected stakeholder in Kwara politics, Hon. MM has over the years built a reputation for strategic thinking and silent but effective political manoeuvring. Many analysts believe that his current disposition is part of a well-calculated plan, as his actions continue to generate reactions within both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition.

Although he remains a registered member of the APC, MM’s name has been mentioned in connection with opposition movements and gatherings in recent times. His perceived influence was again brought to the fore during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) unveiling ceremony in Ilorin, where his absence was more felt than the presence of several attendees; a development that reinforced his image as a subtle power broker.

Beyond party politics, MM’s growing association with the Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM) has also become a talking point. The movement, which projects itself as a non-partisan platform for Kwarans advocating for good governance, has continued to gain traction.

Described by many as one of the key backers of KRM, MM is believed to be playing a central role in its drive for unity and collective progress. A member of the movement, Keji Sidikat stated yesterday that “Don’t be in a hurry to know MM’s next political move. He is on top of the game.”

Observers say the KRM’s message of synergy and cooperation reflects the growing call among Kwarans for a more coordinated opposition capable of offering credible alternatives in the state’s political space.

However, with the opposition yet to overcome internal divisions, questions remain as to whether such synergy can be achieved before the next election cycle.

For now, Hon. Mashood Mustapha continues to keep his cards close to his chest. But if history is anything to go by, his next move (whenever it comes) is expected to have a significant impact on Kwara’s evolving political landscape.
