As part of an effort to cushion the economic hardship among the less privileged people in the country, some selected people in Kwara state have been given foodstuff courtesy of the federal government.
Flagging off the distribution ceremony at the open field of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority in Ilorin, the state coordinator, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim OON, lauded the social investment initiatives of the administration of the President Muhammadu Buhari, said it had impacted vulnerable people in a big way.
“There are no doubts that the Mohammadu Buhari administration has embarked on most laudable social investment programs since the year 2015. Some of these programs include but are not limited to Conditional Cash Transfer, N-Power, Home Grown School Feeding, Grants for Rural Women, Relief Packages for Artisans, COVID-19 Relief Package and the Creation of jobs in 774 local governments, nationwide.
“I am also aware that to raise the standard of living of the people, the Kwara State Government also replicated some of these Social Investment Programs. It is in the same spirit that the Presidential Initiative commenced the distribution of foodstuff which is tagged BABA FOR ALL to provide succour to the needy, weak and vulnerable people in society.
Beneficiaries of Baba For All food stuffs include: Vulnerable Persons, Widows, Orphans and Physically Challenged Persons.
Jani, further stated that the distribution of the foodstuff was apolitical and cuts across gender and religious biases.
“The Kwara State Committee set up to ensure fair distribution across all the local governments in Kwara State, will ensure the distribution will be made in all 16 LGAs to cover 193 wards in the state.
He also appealed to the wealthy Nigerians to support taking care of the vulnerable.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all well-meaning Nigerians who the Almighty has lifted to use their resources to support the weak and vulnerable in the society, Each one help one, will improve inclusion and cohesion in the society”
Responding to questions from pressmen at the event, the representative of the state governor, Adebayo Lateef, who is also the chairman of the Kwara state social investment programme, said “The gesture was out of magnanimity of the President Mohammadu Buhari to make sure he supports all Nigerians, most especially the vulnerable and physically challenged people, who live below the poverty cord and this is what the Kwara state is equally replicating at Kwara state social investment programme to cater for the vulnerable.
Appreciating the gesture on behalf of the beneficiaries, the state chairman of the joint national association of the person with a disability, comrade Yusuf Bashir, lauded the initiative said “this is not the first time, we are one of the beneficiary’s last year, I remember that we told them then that it should be a continuous one, and we are very grateful today that we are also part of the beneficiaries. It will go a long way to relieve our people of hunger. We also appeal to wealthy Nigerians to complement this kind of gesture, because the government alone can not do it”
Another beneficiary, Hajia Jawondo Ramat, expressed appreciation for the gesture and call on the government to design more initiatives that will alleviate poverty in society.
