Substitution of name: Aspirant Drags INEC, Party To Court

An aspirant for state House of Assembly election in Nasarawa state, Atose Mohammed Mu’azu, has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to court over the alleged substitution of his name for Adamu Mohammed Omadefu who didn’t win primary election conducted in May this year.

The case filed at the Federal High Court, Lafia, is slated for hearing on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

The contention as stated in the case with file number FHC/LAF/CS/16/2022, is over who is the rightful candidate of the APC to contest in the 2023 general elections to represent the Keana state constituency in Nasarawa state House of Assembly (NSHA).

Muazu is seeking an injunction prohibiting the 3rd defendant (Omadefu) from holding himself out as the candidate of the APC for the Keana legislative constituency for the NSHA in the forthcoming general elections scheduled for March 2023.

The director-general of Mohammed Campaign Organisation, Musa Barde, in a statement Sunday said, “The APC result sheet for the 2022 NSHA primary election signed by the chairman electoral committee, Barrister Mustapha Iliyasu, and secretary, Cecilia Itodo, when the election was conducted on 27th May 2022 in Keana, said the result sheet shows that Muazu who is the plaintiff polled 46 votes out of 50.”
