The Nigerian Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE) Kwara State chapter has challenged the state government to address food shortage in the state with all seriousness.
This is contained in a press statement signed by the state chairman of the Union, Comrade (Dr) David Kayode Ehindero fcpa and made available to Accurate News Nigeria.
The statement read “The Nigerian Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE) representing the agricultural workforce in Kwara State expresses deep concern over the current state of hunger and food shortages in the region.
“Despite the abundant potentials and natural resources of Kwara State, it is disheartening that the state is facing such challenges.
“During a protest organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), NUAAE highlighted the urgent need for the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to prioritize investment in the agricultural sector.
“NUAAE proposes the establishment of a special initiative called “Feed Kwara” aimed at engaging agricultural professionals within the government and leveraging the resources of Kwara’s land, water, and favorable weather conditions.
“Feed Kwara” seeks to establish Farm Estates across the state, providing a platform for skilled agricultural workers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Kwara Agriculture Development Project (ADP), the Ministry of Forestry and Environment, and farming communities to harness the agricultural potential of Kwara State effectively.
“NUAAE emphasizes the need to maximize and utilize the willing workforce scattered across the State Ministry of Agriculture, Kwara Agriculture Development Project (KWADP), the Ministry of Forestry, and Environment. These dedicated professionals are ready to contribute their expertise towards ensuring food security and eradicating hunger in Kwara State.
“NUAAE calls upon Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to take immediate action to address the food shortages in Kwara State and ensure the well-being of its citizens by investing in the agricultural sector.”
That was a good one from the Chairman of Agricultural union in kwara State. I only hope that Kwara State government will yield to the advice do the needful.
Kwara State is abundantly blessed with the needed natural resources to excel in the Agricultural sector. The state has comparative advantage in the production of various food, it is also blessed with skilled and determined workforce.
All that the government need to do is to play low on politics, connect with the right set of people and tap into these available resources to be a net exporter of Agricultural produce.
