Amidst crisis rocking Kwara state All Progressives Congress (APC) some elders and stakeholders on Monday endorsed Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for a second term in office.
The party elders and stakeholders, behind the endorsement made this know through a press conference, said the governor deserves a second term because of his outstanding performance in less than 2 years in office.
The text of the APC stakeholders press conference was read by Prince Sunday Fagbemi, who was flanked by notable party leaders including Barrister Kunle Sulaiman, Senator Makanjuola Ajadi and Ambassador Nurudeen Mohammed, Chief Wole Oke.
“It is common knowledge that every governor, especially a performing one would be interested in second term. Even if His Excellency has not stated categorically that he’s interested in second term, we’ll by his level of performance ask him to run for second term”, he said.
The party stalwarts, who lamented political frictions within the APC fold in the state, however, said that there is room for reconciliation of warring members.
“For us the solution is at the corner. The present caretaker committee exco has a tenure of six months. There will be a congress thereafter to elect party leaders at different levels in the state. I think that’s the only democratic way to solve the situation”, he said.
The Kwara APC elders and stakeholders accused the state party chairman, Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa and two other stalwarts of the party, Professor Oba Shuaib Abdulraheem and Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo of working at cross purposes with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
The stakehoders said that the party chairman and some others had never disguised their dislike for the governor and his administration, “for reasons unconnected to development of the state.
“Contrary to decency and party rules, they go on radio to openly condemn the government of their own party. Had the Governor not endeared himself to the masses with his humility, simplicity and people-focus performance as can be seen in every part of the state, the insurrection by these persons were enough to bring down any government”.
The party elders and stakehoders pledged their support for the governor and his administration, saying that the governor is delivering dividends of democracy.
The elders said that they have a historic duty to support AbdulRazaq on account of his impactful leadership of the state, his prudence, humility and large-hearted approaches to issues, including party politics.
The elders said it was unfortunate that some persons within the party are teaming up with opposition elements to discredit the Governor in spite of his achievements which could be felt across the state within a short period of time.
