The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared the way for the emergence of a Southerner as President in 2023

This is confirmed by the decision of the ruling party which has zoned the position of National Chairman to the North, in which it has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was disclosed by Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. He made this known during a chat with State House correspondents after a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and APC governors.

The meeting of the APC governors with President Buhari had in attendance Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha; as well as the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

Specifically, El-Rufai revealed that President Buhari and the party’s  governors agreed on the zoning formula for all the six geopolitical zones ahead of the 2023 general elections.

In his submission, he disclosed that the Northern zones will take positions that Southern zones had in the last eight years and vice versa; adding that the development is a simple and  equitable one

“We have agreed on a zoning formula for all the six geopolitical zones and essentially, we swapped. Northern zones will take positions that Southern zones had in the last eight years and vice versa.

“So, it’s a very simple, equitable and fair formula. We will now go back and consult at the zonal level; look at the positions that are available and the process of the convention preparation will start in earnest. So, by the grace of God on the 26th of March, we will have done a national convention.”
