A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All progressive Congress, (APC) Salihu Lukman, has given clarification on reports of alleged announcing of the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, as the consensus candidate for the party by the National chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Adamu.
It was reported that the national chairman of the party, Adamu had on Monday announced the choice of Lawan at a meeting of the NWC held at the party’s national Secretariat, Abuja.
But, a member of the NWC and national vice-chairman of Northeast, Salihu Lukman, said that “such decision was never taken at the meeting”
The party chairman, Adamu, reportedly told the National Working Committee that he arrived at the choice of Lawan after consultation with President Buhari.
We could recall that governors of the party from northern region had met again with Buhari yesterday and insisted on their earlier position that the next president must come from the southern part of Nigeria.
Although, It was gathered that the governor’s meeting with the president was not conclusive as he reportedly directed them to go and reconcile with the NWC.
