ASUU Finally Ssuspends 8- Month Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), following an order by the Industrial Court and Court of Appeal, on October 7, 2022, and sequel to a memorandum agreed upon and signed by the Federal government has on early hours of today Friday 14th of October, suspended the strike which embarked starting from February 14, 2022.

A member of the union’s National Executive Committee, NEC, confirmed this to The Accurate News today.

ASUU decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

The state branches of the union met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week, following which members voted to conditionally suspend the strike.

The Court of Appeal had issued an order to ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work could be heard.

The National Executive Committee meeting was attended by chairmen of the state chapters and national executive members at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

  1. This is a welcome development. Government of Nigeria (the executive)must stop using excessive power on national registered unions. Dialogue and settlement out of court always cost less in every aspect.
