The Atyap People of Zango Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State have staged a peaceful protest for two days over the continous killings in the area.
Protesters including the elderly, dressed in black attires demanded that the Federal and State Government address the deteriorating security situation in the area.
This protests followed renewed attacks in various communities by bandits in the Atyap Chiefdom in the Local Government.
About 33 persons were killed in the latest attacks on April 15.
A solemn session was observed on the first day of the protests where prayers were made for the repose of the souls of their kins and kindred who lost their lives in the attacks.
On the second day, a protest march of about 12 kilometers was observed from Samaru to the Local Government Secretariat at Zonkwa.
The National President, Atyap Community Development Association, Dr Samuel Achi at the protest said that all efforts by the community failed to end the killings.
He said the community had set up and funded the Atyap Chiefdom Peace, Security and Partnership Committee made up of Atyap, Hausa and Fulani youth and women to security agencies among other efforts.
Council Chairman, Francis Zimbo said the local government had continuously spent huge amount of money due to the aggravating insecurity in the local government. (RN)
