Bayelsa Queens reach first-ever CAF Women’s Champions League semi-final

Nigerian side Bayelsa Queens reached their first-ever semi-final in the CAF Women’s Champions League following a 3-0 victory over Morocco’s Wadi Degla.

The Prosperity Girls won their second match of the tournament.

The game was played inside Prince Herities Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco. In the eight minute, Juliet Sunday put Bayelsa Ahead before Mercy Itimi added two more goals.

They reached the semi-final of the competition having amassed six points in three games in Group B. The feat makes them the first Nigerian club to reach the semi-final of the tournament.

Coach Domo Okara’s side will face AS FAR Ladies in the semi-final on Wednesday. AS FAR were the winners of Group A.

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies who handed out the only group defeat to Bayelsa Queens also won their match. They were ruthless in dispatching TP Mazembe Ladies 4-0 to also book their place in the semi-finals.

The Nigerian champions began the tournament with a 2-1 loss to defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns; but then bounced back to win their next game against Mazembe 2-0 before handing out the 3-0 defeat to Degla.
