Kwara state chapter of the Labour Party has debunked the reported defection of members of the state executive council of the party, saying that the exco is intact.
It would be recalled that some people claimed to be members of the Labour Party, led by Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Ladan who addressed himself as secretary on Thursday announced their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the development activities of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in the past four years in office as reasons for their actions.
However, speaking with journalists in Ilorin at the Labour Party Secretariat on Friday, the state secretary of the party, Mrs Tosin Ogunleye, described people who reportedly defected to the APC as impostors and political jobbers.
Ogunleye, said that Ladan and some others had been expelled from the Labour Party before now due to anti-party activities.
Added that the party executive led by High Chief Rotimi Kehinde, governorship and the house of assembly candidates of the party and other stakeholders are resolute and determined to participate in the Saturday elections to win.
“Members of the state executive of the Labour Party in Kwara state are intact. Nobody has decamped to APC. And a point to note here is that we’re not forming an alliance with any other party in this governorship election and all our House of Assembly candidates in all the state constituencies are contesting in the Saturday elections.
“Most of the people that said they’re decamping to the APC or PDP in Kwara state are either our members or impostors. They are political jobbers, going to PDP and APC for selfish gain and people should not take them seriously”. She said
Also speaking, the former deputy governorship candidate of the party in the state and now the party’s governorship flagbearer, Mrs. Elizabeth Ehindero Ronke, said that the chairman of the party in the state, High Chief Kehinde Rotimi, remains the chairman of the party with other members of the state executive intact.
Elizabeth, however enjoined members of the public and especially the electorate in the state to be wary of impostors, said that the party is standing strong to face the election on Saturday and produce the first female governor in the state.
“Public knows the truth, we are only here to clear the facts and reassured all supporters of the Labour Party that we are here with our integrity intact.
“Some impostors, who happened to be the same set of people have been going to PDP and APC for selfish interest”.
Speaking further, the Deputy Chairman of the Labour party in Kwara South Engineer Yinka Oladejo, explained that the party is intact and resolute in winning Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
He, however, appreciates the gesture being given to the party as a new bride in the state.
He urges Kwarans to disregard any information of allying with any political parties in the state.
According to him, “How can we form an alliance with other parties when our principal, Mr Peter Obi, is in court challenging the outcome of the presidential election?
