Cash Crunch, Fuel Scarcity: NUJ seeks accelerated action to relieve citizens of hardship; advises members on election conduct

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kwara State Council has called on the Federal Government to find a quick solution to the lingering fuel and new naira notes scarcity, inflicting pains on the common Nigerians.

The union expressed this in a communiques issued at the end of its state executive council meeting held at the union secretariat on Friday.

The meeting was chaired by the state chairman of the union, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, and had in attendance members of the state working committee as well as chairmen and secretaries of the chapels.

“We called on the government as a matter of urgency to look into the hardship being experienced by Nigerians due to lingering fuel scarcity and Currency swap by CBN,” the communique resolved.

The SEC also urged practising journalists, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) politicians and all stakeholders on peaceful polls.

“We advised journalists who are not accredited by the INEC to steer clear of polling units during the forthcoming general elections and should not wear any clothing materials with the political party’s inscription”

The meeting also set up a 5-man committee to look into the issues arising from continued closure of the Kwara NUJ chalet, holistically and proffer permanent solution to the lingering crisis.

Members of the committee are: Biola Azeez of Correspondents’ Chapel (Chairman) Lawrence Afolabi of Harmony FM, Musa Babatunde Jimba of Kwara TV, Bimbo Suleiman of NOA Chapel and Abdulhameed Funsho Alaye of Radio Kwara (Secretary)
