CBN deadline: Banks to open Saturday, Sunday

    All Deposit Money Banks in the country including staff of Central Bank of Nigeria CBN have been directed to open for operation this sunday.

    Director of Security Services of CBN, Mohammad Atiku told newsmen after an awareness campaign at the neighbourhood market in keffi local government area of Nasarawa state that the move was to ease the issue of last munites rush in banks receiving deposits from customers.

    Mr Atiku explained that it was also aimed at giving Nigerians that are yet to deposit their old naira notes the opportunity to do so before the expiry date of 31 January.

    He said management of the apex bank gave the directive after assessment of level of long queues in banks across the country.

    The CBN Director who expressed appreciation to relevant government agencies for their support and cooperation in sensitising residents of Nasarawa state, specifically thanked the traditional rulers for taking the message to their various domains.

    The CBN team led by Mohammad Atiku took the sensitisation campaign to Kokona and Keffi local government areas where hundreds of market women and farmers queue up to swap their old naira notes with the redesigned notes from POS operators that came with the team.
