Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc has donated food items and clothing worth millions of naira to vulnerable children and displaced families in Edo.
The company visited the Roseluyi Exceptional Students Academy in Benin City as well as the Home for the Needy Foundation at the Ohodua IDP Camp on Friday.
The oil palm firm presented essential food supplies, beverages, clothing and footwear as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach.
Speaking during the presentation, Okomu’s Communication Officer, Mr Fidelis Olise, said the Christmas outreach reflected the company’s core philosophy of empathy and shared humanity.
“As a company, we are glad to be doing this.
“Christmas is a time to show love, spread joy, and demonstrate the values that epitomise Christ, who is the reason for the season.
‘Providing these items is our way of ensuring that these children celebrate Christmas in a joyful and dignified way. No one should be left behind,” he said.
Olise added that Okomu’s CSR efforts were rooted in concern for human welfare. “Okomu always wants to see that everyone enjoys the best possible life.
“This outreach underscores our belief in community support and shared humanity.
“We want these children and families to feel remembered, especially at a time when many are facing hardship,” he said.
At the Roseluyi Exceptional Students Academy, the gesture was welcome with a visible excitement among the children.
The Director of the school, Mrs Rosemary Isaac-Aluyi, described the intervention as timely and profoundly supportive.
“This is an uncommon gesture from Okomu, and it will go a very long way.
“Raising these children requires resources that are not always available.
“Support like this helps us provide food, stability and the basic comforts every child deserves,” she said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Odohua camp, Pastor Evelyn Omigie said the gesture renewed the spirits of many who had begun to feel forgotten.
“To us, Okomu is like an angel sent by God to celebrate Christmas with us in an uncommon way.
“This gesture shows that people still care about our wellbeing,” Omigie said.
