Kwara State National Quranic Recitation Competition Committee, on Sunday, held one day training programme for selected teachers of Quran recitation in the state.
The training was orgasised to acquaint Qur’an memorizers with the latest rules, skills and technology necessary to meet up with the current modes of reciting the Qur’an and give them an edge during national and international competitions.
Speaking at the event, the state coordinator of the Qur’an Memorization/Reciters Committee, Alh Waliyullahi Aliy- Kamal said “Kwara state and this committee had initially hosted national competition of Qur’an recitation in the year 2000 and 2017, and here we are again organiding one day workshop for teachers of Qur’an recitation and competition, drawn across the public and private Islamic schools in the 16 LGAs in the state.
“The essence of this workshop is to broaden the knowledge of teachers, train them on the latest technology and skills to train their students.
“It worth mentioning that in year 2000 Kwara state presented about 75 percent of all the reciters that represented Nigeria in Mecca, Saudi-Arabia, and one of the participants, Ahmad Akorede was chosen as best reciter in the world that year.
“We have also been representing Nigeria in other countries such as Turkey, Malaysia, and Egypt. We have been bringing laurels and honours to the country and state in particular”.
He added that the committee invited the resource persons from Uthman Danfodio University, Sokoto and from Kano state and they would put the participants through five different modules of science of reading and memorizing the Qur’an.
Also speaking, the secretary of the committee, Imam AbdulMumin Sa’ad, disclosed 80 teachers were participating in the training programme.
The workshop was declared open by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Bashir Salihu, Imam Imale, Sheikh Abdullahi AbdulHameed, Grand Khadi of Kwara Sharia Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen, Alh.Sheu AbdulGafar and a former Grand Khadi in the state, Justice Salihu Mohammed amongst others.
