The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced activities for its 2026 Press Week celebration, with the grand finale scheduled to hold on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Shalom Hall, City of Refuge, 14 Station Road, via Water View GRA, Ilorin, by 4:00pm.
In a statement signed by the chairman, 2026 press week, Mallam Garba Abdulhakeem, the annual event is designed to celebrate journalists, promote professional development, and strengthen collaboration between the media and critical stakeholders in governance and society.
The Chairman of the Occasion is a development expert, Otunba David Sunday Babalola, while the Special Guest of Honour is Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
A major highlight of the event will be presentations by two distinguished members of the Kwara State Executive Council.
The Keynote Speaker, who is the state commissioner for Livestock Development, Oloruntoyosi Thomas, is expected to speak on issues bordering on development, innovation, and opportunities within the evolving livestock sector, while also addressing the role of strategic communication in national growth.
Also expected to deliver a special address as Guest Speaker is the state commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, who will speak on government-media relations, information management, and the critical role of journalism in deepening democratic governance and public accountability.
The event will also feature the Royal Father of the Day, Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye, The Oloro of Oro Kingdom.
As part of activities lined up for the Press Week, a fitness exercise and table tennis competition will hold on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, beginning at 7:00am.
The Correspondents’ Chapel said the event will bring together media practitioners, government officials, royal fathers, captains of industry, civil society actors, and members of the public to celebrate excellence in journalism and encourage ethical media practice.
