A Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki has nullified the local government election held in Ebonyi State last month.
The judgment followed a suit filed by some members of Ebonyi State Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) challenging the legality of the conduct of the Local Government Election pursuant to section 98, 103 and 150 of the 2022 Electoral Act as amended.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Fatun Rilman held that it was undemocratic and unlawful for Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) to have conducted election in Council Areas without availing the plaintiffs the latest extant State Electoral Law.
Joined in the suit were Ebonyi State Government, the State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
