Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has warned the state governors against allowing people of their state gathering at the public football viewing centres amid rising in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, Mr. Boss Mustapha expressed the warning during Monday’s press briefing of his team, called on the governors to embark on wider community testing and enforcement of safety guidelines before allowing anything of such at all.
He said, “We have received reports that some states are contemplating the reopening of schools, television viewing centres, sports stadium and other places where large gatherings could take place”
“The PTF made it know that it is not yet safe to do so and that utmost caution should be exercised. Added that guideline should still be complied with while considering decision of such nature,”
We could recalled that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state had last week gave permission to the football viewing centres across the state to start showing football matches, following the return of football leagues across Europe this week, which may have prompted the federal government to express its concern on the decision.
Mustapha further expressed concern over non-adherence with the safety measures in markets, motor parks and worship centres. And called on the people to adhere to the safety measures in the interest of their self.
