Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara State Command on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim SuluGambari, to seek the royal father’s support on the anti-smuggling fight by the operatives of the service.
The operatives of the command was led by the newly deployed area commander, Compt. Kahinde Ilesanmi, who solicited for partnership and support of the emir in ensuring that the people of the state understand the role of customs as partners in progress by way of public enlightenment, education and sensitisation of the stakeholders in order to achieve total compliance by citizens who import and export goods.
“I acknowledge the critical role of the traditional institutions can play especially in the areas of sensitization and enlightenment of their subjects, Stakeholders and the society at large. Compt. Ilesanmi said.
He stated that the service is working tirelessly to curb illicit trade in the country in order to promote economic growth and development.
“The decision of the federal government to ban importation of some food items into the country, most especially rice is not to witch hunt anyone but to encourage local farmers and boost home production”
He urged for total compliance with the federal government directives, and said the Kwara land border is still closed.
Responding, the emir assured the customs area controller of his continuous royal support for the command to enable him and the management team achieve the mandate of revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti smuggling operations.
