The provost of the Kwara State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Ilorin, Alhaji Imam Abubakar Ayinla, has charged both the executive and legislative arms of governments to be more committed to bringing succor to the common man and build a strong economy as a means of sustaining the nation’s democracy.
He also urged Nigerians to continue to support the government’s policies aimed at enrolling the private sectors of the economy, focusing on locally manufactured goods, encourage small scale entrepreneurs, developing alternative sources of foreign exchange other than oil, directing attention to commercial agriculture and mining of mineral resources, eliminating smuggling and other activities which can sabotage the economy.
The Nurse Educator, stressed that the real challenge to the sustenance of democracy was the need for a solid economy that would ensure that the citizens enjoy high standard of living, job opportunities and infrastructural facilities.
The College administrator added that if the people can be resilient and rally round the government policies to develop the economy and create a vibrant private sector by eschewing all activities which threaten the stability of the country, many of the problems which bedevil the nation’s policies will be eliminated and our democracy will grow from strength to strength.
The Provost however urged critical stakeholders, labour movements, human rights crusaders, gentlemen of the press and opinion moulders not to abdicate their roles of defending and promoting the noble ideals of democracy even in face of threats, hunger and misdeavours.
Imam Abubakar Ayinla described two years administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as, “impactful” saying, “the active support of Mr. Governor to tertiary education in the state is highly commendable “, he noted.
Meanwhile, the Provost assured kwarans and Nigerians in general that the college “is well positioned for better performance and to continue to serve as an example to other professional colleges in the state national and globally”,
emphasizing “our products can compete favourably with their contemporizes anywhere in the world”, Provost assured.
