Checking across the states in Nigeria, one could say that permutations for 2023 politics is fast commencing in Kwara State, going by the recent alignment and realignment of politicians across political parties in the state.

Although, one can say that the early political permutations ahead of 2023 general election could be trace to inexplicable war within ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), party’s chieftains are at loggerheads.

To some apolitical people, the question is; Why should people that wrestled power in a miraculous manner find it difficult to use its new status strengthen its membership and form a formidable barrier?

We could recalled that in recent time both People Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress  (APC) had announced reception of new members into their folds, in the name of defection while another political party, Young Progressive Party (YPP) announced its arrival and commencement of e-registration of membership.

Giving reasons for their defection from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to yet to be announced political party, the spokesperson of the ‘third force group’ who was also a senatorial chairman for the party in Kwara central, Abdulfatai Abdulrahaman said the aggrieved party members are left with no other choice.

In AbdulFatai words “the integrity of APC in Kwara has been Jeopardized; and the crisis ridden party can no longer guaranty hopes and aspirations of Kwarans.”

“As you are all aware, Kwara APC has been embroiled in one crisis or the other immediately after the party primary before the 2019 elections, stretching into the campaign period and lingering up till date,”

“We the over twenty thousand (20,000) card carrying members of the All Progressive Congress which include Senatorial chairman Kwara Central, Local government party chairmen, local government women leaders, youth leaders, ward chairmen as well as APC party stalwarts across all the sixteen local government areas in the state, hereby denounce APC and form a KWARA THIRD FORCE for the yearnings and betterment of kwarans.”

“We hereby unequivocally denounce APC and its shenanigans. We are using this platform to announce the formation of a KWARA THIRD FORCE, created principally to cater to the yearnings of long suffering Kwarans and to see to their betterment”

The group further explained that the crisis has reached its peak during the recently concluded  APC membership revalidation and registration exercise which according to them was largely flawed with deliberate policies and grand orchestration to deregister and disenfranchise selected members of the party.

“The attention of the Senator John Danboi-led team and the National Secretariat of the party were drawn from different quarters to the perfidious and glaring aberration of the registration process. But to our dismay, nothing was done to address the grievances”

Meanwhile, the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq while addressing the appeals panel on the APC registration exercise headed by Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu at Government House in Ilorin, recently said “members who are yet to revalidate their membership or members of the public wanting to join the party to do so, adding that the process will continue even after the congress”

“We are glad to have this party committee in Kwara. This process is part of the process of building a stronger party. Registration is an ongoing exercise. Nobody will be left behind in this registration”

Meanwhile, according to a source, ‘Third Force’ is already making consultation and talking to some of the big guns and money bags politicians that are not pleased with political directions of Governor AbdulRazaq’s to join their camp and form a formidable force to wrest power from the ruling APC.

One of the APC stalwarts was specifically mentioned in the person of Waziri Yakubu Gobir, founder of Yakubu Gobir Foundation, an NGO with special interest in Women empowerment. Gobir was also Governorship aspirant in 2019 election.

According to the source “we seriously engaging and convincing Waziri Hausawa to join us, the major reason we have vested interest in him is because of huge followers he commands most especially among women in the state” he said.

But, the question now is that, is ‘Third Force’ really a threat to future chance of APC in the state or they are out to use the group to renegotiate their interest within APC? Time shall tell.
