The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has called on the governments at all levels to always give an avenue whereby the citizens would have chances of meeting with the people at the helms of affairs and express their views on government programmes and activities.
The Chairman, Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers made this call at the Town Hall meeting chaired by the Federal Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed at Savanah event centre, Ilorin, kwara state capital.
According to the Emir, This kind of event should come often. It should not be only during electioneering periods that citizens will interact with people in power.”
“This is a good development, citizens would be able to express their views on governments activities and programmes embark upon by the governments to better the life of citizens and as well create avenue to exchange ideas”
The Emir, who also appealed to the government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the protracted strike for students to return back to classroom.
“I urge government to end the ASUU imbroglio so that our children can return to classroom. Government should prioritise education, security and be sincere about their fight against corruption,” the Emir said.
Speaking earlier, the convener of the event, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, delivered message of President Muhammadu Buhari, appealing to Nigerians, especially youth, to bear with his administration in the face of daunting requests and socio-economic challenges in the country.
Stressed that population explosion is part of the challenges facing the nation’s socio-economic development, as against fewer population figure of the past, added that the government would not rest on its oars at making life better for the citizenry.
Present at the event were Kwara State Governor, Speaker of the state Assembly, Chairman Federal Character Commission, State, APC chairman and other dignitaries.
