The Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi (ENACT) sponsored Kwara South Unity Group (KSUG) “Igbomina Lokan” campaign tour is nothing more than a cheap joker, driven by pretense and a thirst for popularity. The campaign, instead of strengthening the collective appeal of the Igbomina people for equity, comes across as a self-serving political gambit lacking in credibility and depth.
For clarity, Kwara South is composed of three major ethnic blocs: the Igbomina, Ekiti, and Ibolo. Ekiti and Ibolo blocs has had its fair turn in producing senators to represent the district. On the grounds of fairness, it is not only justified but also legitimate for the Igbomina bloc to aspire for the senatorial office in the coming election, Yes!. However, such aspiration must be rooted in sincerity, geninue broad consultation, and collective endorsement, not in a contrived, Ponzi-like scheme designed by individuals to sell their personal ambitions as the voice of the people. No!
The “Igbomina Lokan” agenda is bigger than one politician. It is a noble appeal of the Igbomina people who, for years, have patiently sought the opportunity to represent their senatorial district. No candidate should arrogate to himself the title of “sole candidate of the Igbomina” until he has gone through the crucible of party primaries and, ultimately, the general election. To assume such a role prematurely is to cry more than the bereaved and insult the intelligence of the people and political parties.
Kwara Southerners are not gullible. They will not be deceived by cheap social media glorification or photo opportunities disguised as political endorsement. In today’s political climate, social credibility is not conferred by hashtags, staged handshakes, or campaign theatrics. It is earned through years of genuine community service, visible track records, integrity, and patriotic leadership. Any politician who imagines otherwise is simply indulging in political fantasy.
Riding on the horse of “Igbomina Lokan” and believing that the road to the Kwara South Senate seat can be won through mere online pageantry is nothing short of a Ponzi scheme. Our people have seen this gimmick too many times to be fooled again. They know elections are won through grassroots presence, tested political structures, earned trust, and social credibility, not through sponsored popularity stunts as displayed by the pilots of the KSUG.
This is not a rejection of the rightful aspiration of the Igbomina people; It is a call for orderliness and respect for the conscientious people of Kwara South. The quest for representation must not be trivialized or hijacked by politicians who see in it only an opportunity to market their preconceived agenda. If Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi truly believes in the Igbomina cause, then let him subject himself to the people assessment, fair competition, and to the ballot. Anything short of this is self-deception. Campaigning before election is like feeding the hungry. And for Kwara South, the challenges are too many to gamble on deception. We must address our incessant challenges of insecurity, economic crisis, and unity in good faith.
