An influential chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in Kwara State and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aliyu Ahman-Pategi on Friday dumped the PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ahman Pategi represented Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara north in the House of Representatives between 2007- 2019.
The proprietor of Ahman Pategi University, Patigi officially defected to the ruling APC in the state at a colourful ceremony held in Patigi, the headquarters of Patigi local government area of the state.
The former lawmaker was received into the APC by the state executives of the party led its chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi.
The chairman of the Alliance For Sustainable Kwara (ASK), an association committed to the promotion of the milestones of the APC- led state government, Malam Razaq Lawal led a powerful delegation of the group to Patigi to receive Ahman Pategi into the fold of the ruling party.
Lawal, a former state secretary of the PDP in the state told newsmen on the sidelines of the programme that more development- inclined politicians from all parts of the state will soon find their ways into the APC.
He said Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership style which has given all the zones in the state a genuine sense of belonging is the motivation propelling the opposition elements to join the APC’s moving train.
In his remarks, Ahman Pategi said his former party- the PDP “has failed to entice the Kwara north senatorial district despite several political gimmicks because even the unborn children in Kwara north will live to hear about how the party underdeveloped their senatorial district and how the leadership of the party made them a third class citizens by playing upon their intelligence for years, a treatment now christened “the animal farm gesture”.
Acknowledging Governor AbdulRazaq’s giant strides in the provision of infrastructure for Kwara north, Ahman Pategi said;” Governor AbdulRazaq leadership style of Kwara For All with several developmental projects and his efforts in restoring the dignity of all Kwarans bruced for years by the PDP is the new song everyone including Kwara northerners across party lines are now dancing to.”
The former lawmaker who signalled the eclipse of the PDP in Patigi said:” We, in Patigi have decided to collapse PDP into APC. It is not me joining, it is all of the Patigi PDP joining the APC.”
The state chairman of APC, Prince Sunday Fagbemi who was flanked by the secretary of the party, Alh Mustapha Isowo, expressed satisfaction that the brilliant performance of Governor AbdulRazaq has continued to attract development- driven personalities and prominent politicians into the party.
He recalled that about a fortnight ago, two prominent politicians from Kwara north, a former deputy speaker in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Sukababa and a former House of Representatives candidate, Hon. Abubakar Musa(Biology) , also dumped the PDP for APC in Kaiama, headquarters of Kaiama local government area of the state.
