The foundation laying ceremony of the multi- million naira Okelele Divisional Police Headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State was performed yesterday.
The project conceived to further beef up security in the area which had for long being served by the Alagbado Police Post, is the initiative of the Ibagun Progressive Union (IPU).
It was during the course of IPU’s soliciting for funds from the indigenes of the area that a member of the House of Representatives, Alh AbdulGaniyu Cook- Olododo who is an indigene of the area announced that he would include the construction of the facility in his 2022 constituency projects.
The IPU in collaboration with the Alangua Ibagun, Mal Sakariyau Ilufemiloye provided a part of the land of the Ondoko- Okelele market conceived since 1995 by the administration of the then Ilorin East local government for the construction of the police divisional headquarters.
Another indigene of Ibagun and the current Special Adviser on Strategy to Kwara State governor, Alh Saadu Salahu, who was the supervisory councillor for Works in the council in 1995 was the prime mover of the citing of the Ondoko- Okelele market.
The IPU leadership and the entire people of Okelele/ Ibagun community were excited that the new police station will serve as a good compliment to Ondoko market.
Speaking at the ceremony, the donor, Hon. Cook- Olododo described the ground breaking of the police office project as a milestone in the history of political representation in Ibagun ward and Ilorin Emirate.
He recalled his other interventions in Ibagun ward, including two road projects which he said would soon be commissioned.
Also speaking, the IPU chairman, Alh Kuranga Omomeji Morogun, gave the background information on the initiative.
He thanked Cook- Olododo for his love for his community which culminated in his taking over of the construction of the police divisional headquarters in Ondoko- Okelele.
The ceremony was attended by the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alh Hakeem Lawal, president of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alh Aliyu Otta-Uthman, the IPU, chairman, Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, Alh Kuranga Omomeji Morogun, three PDP stalwarts, Alh AbdulRaheem Olesin, Alhaja Nimata Ibrahim and Alhaja Sarah Adebayo; former IEDPU president, Ambassador Sheikh AbdulAziz, IPU coordinator, Barr. Raufu Ajao said traditional chiefs led by the Alangua Ibagun, Mal Sakariyau Ilufemiloye.
