The Federal Government has ordered the shutdown of all polytechnics in the country ahead of the general election on February 25 and March 11.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu gave the directive in a letter signed by IO Folorunsho, an official of the Ministry.
The letter, which has been seen by journalists, was addressed to the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Idris Bugaje.
Mr Adamu directed that the instructions contained in the letter be conveyed to rectors and provosts of all polytechnics, namely, that academic activities should be suspended from February 22 to March 14.
Excerpts of the letter reads: “In view of concerns expressed on the security of staff, students, and properties of our respective institutions, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has, following extensive consultations with the relevant security agencies, directed that all polytechnics be shut down.
“And academic activities will be suspended between Wednesday, Feb.22 and Tues. March 14, 2023.”
In a similar move, the National Universities Commission (NUC) last week ordered the closure of all universities across the country within that period to enable students exercise their civic rights.
