FG Trains Independent Monitors For Social Intervention Programs

Federal Government is collaborating with the Ogun State Government to train independent monitors and integrate them into the structure of ensuring proper evaluation of the government’s poverty alleviation programs. 

40 Independent Monitors took part in the Stream 2 training and onboarding for the implementation of the National Social Investment Programmes, NSIPs. 

In a message, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar – Farouq, represented by the Special Assistant on Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Idris Shehu said the training was imperative to ensure accurate evaluation of the Federal Government interventions. 

Hajiya Umar Farouq described the independent monitors as the eye of the Federal government in Ogun state that would monitor and report to the appropriate authorities on the National Investment Programs in various households, communities, schools and markets across the state.

The Minister who charged the newly trained monitors to uphold standard practice and work closely with the State NSIP warned that anyone found intimidating a beneficiary would be disqualified.

In a remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter- Governmental Affairs, Dr. Rotimi Akinlesi, explained that the training was aimed at equipping the Independent Monitors with the necessary tools, technical know-how and the right skills for optimal performance while urging them to be fair, highly objective and avoid sentiments in carrying out their duties.

Two of the trainees, Mr Aderemi Mustapha and Nurudeen Akinlade from Odogbolu and Abeokuta South Local Governments areas respectively expressed optimism that the exercise would go a long way in getting the people’s feedback to the Federal government and pledged to discharge their duties diligently and effectively .
